About Me:

I am a Swedish artist raised in Boston studying at Davidson College for a B.A. in studio art and english.

I’m primarily a painter. I also write, draw, make digital ar, film photography, and occasionally sew clothes.

As a child, I used to wander around barefoot in Sweden’s mossy forests, feeling a deep unspoken communication between me and nature. I would marvel at the filtered sunlight as it splayed a glittering dance onto the rocks I stood on. I was certain I shared a secret with the natural world. But the feeling was fleeting, and in my work, I am trying to catch that feeling.

For my paintings, I begin by editing my photography and digitally overlaying the images with light I find interesting. I then use experimental water-based processes, pouring acrylic paint over canvas and letting it dry with plastic wrap over top, resulting in wrinkles that resemble the ocean. Bold transparent brushstrokes then give my work a sense of vitality as I represent my overlayed distorted images.

While there is a loss of identity in my figures as they merge with their surroundings, there is not a loss of life. When two life forces occupy one space, neither is whole, and something new becomes visible. In spaces of convergence in my work, a glowing, blooming energy emerges. By beginning with experimental processes, nature has agency in the result–I find that this process helps me get closer to the fleeting feelings I experienced in childhood. My paintings and digital work both explore these transient moments of wonder, as they attempt to uncover the magic that so presently speaks to me in light on natural elements.
